"Do not confuse yourselves with the primitive politics of the past," writes Western Highlands regional candidate Lucas Kiap

by LUCAS KIAP

THE politics of the past is about building more schools but not about reducing high unemployment and creating more job opportunities for large number of school dropouts from the country’s bottleneck education system. The politics of the past is about providing basic services but not about improving the living standards and quality of life of the people by putting the wellbeing of the people at the centre of all development efforts.

The politics of the past is about voting on tribal lines, family connections and bribery and is not about changing the country. The politics of the past is about killing pigs, bribing voters, attending funerals, etc. but not about transforming the country from a poor country to a low level income to middle level income to finally a high level income country.

To change from the primitive politics of the past to the new 21st century in par with the rest of the world; we need leaders who are game changers, who can introduce smart and revolutionary ideas to change the politics of killing pigs, attending funerals, buying coffins, and basic services delivery to start talking about transforming the country’s economy from a poor third world country to a middle income country to finally a high income country. We need leaders who can start talking about transforming the living standards and quality of life of the people. We can’t be forever poor and beggars in our country.

Recycled politicians may have been the best during their times but now we are living in a new era; a time when the world is constantly challenging and shaping by new ideas. Today’s social, political and economic challenges are not the same as in the 1960s or 1980s. We cannot solve today’s problems and challenges with the same thinking in the 1970s or 1980s.

We are living in a world, constantly changing by new ideas – ideas of smart and critical thinkers. Old ideas are constantly challenged by new ideas and they are evolving, giving birth to new ideas, constantly transforming the world around us. The world is moving forward.

Don't vote for recycled politicians. They have nothing new to offer except enriching themselves. That's what they have been doing for the last 41 years. They are addicted. They won't stop themselves unless we force them to stop.

We must take every responsibility to ensure that the future must not remain worse for our children in the hands of those who care less, those who have destroyed this country for the last 41 years years.

Let's all rise up and educate our rural people. Make it your business to educate our people. I have been playing my part, educating our people for the last 20 years since 2001. Now it's your turn. Join me and we can revolutionise this country. Part of the reason I am contesting the elections is to educate and liberate our people from deception and lies.

Do you ever wonder why we are poor in our natural resources rich country?
