Commonwealth Distance Learning Scholarships avaliable for developing commonwealth countries including PNG and Pacific Island States

THE Commonwealth Distance Learning Scholarships are offered for citizens of developing Commonwealth countries - including Papua New Guinea and the South Pacific Island countries. These scholarships are funded by the UK Department for International Development (DFID), with the aim of contributing to the UK’s international development aims and wider overseas interests, supporting excellence in UK higher education, and sustaining the principles of the Commonwealth.

The purpose of scholarship is to contribute to development needs of Commonwealth countries by providing training for skilled and qualified professionals in key development areas.

Intended beneficiaries are: 
  • High-quality postgraduate students who wish to access training not available in their home countries, who wish or need to remain in their home country while they study, and who have the potential to enhance the development of their home countries with the knowledge and leadership skills they acquire.
  • Commonwealth Distance Learning Scholarships support distance learning Master’s degree courses offered in partnership with local providers in developing countries, as well as courses delivered directly by UK universities.

Scholarship Benefits:
Scholarship value: £18,000 per scholarship. This figure must cover all elements of the award, including tuition fees, grants to recipients, applicable partnership development costs, and any UK residential programmes.

Eligibilities:
To apply for these scholarships, you must:
  • Be a citizen of a developing Commonwealth country, refugee, or British protected person (PNG and Pacific Islanders are eligible)
  • Be permanently resident in a developing Commonwealth country
  • Hold a first degree of at least upper second class (2:1) standard. A lower qualification and sufficient relevant experience may be considered in certain cases
Eligible Regions: Developing Countries (Including PNG and Pacific Island States)

Step One: You should apply to study an eligible Master’s course at a UK university that is participating in the Distance Learning Scholarship scheme.

Step two: Apply for the scholarship with the acceptance letter from a UK University.

TAIWAN / REPUBLIC OF CHINA PACIFIC ISLANDS FORUM SCHOLARSHIPS 2017 INCLUDING PAPUA NEW GUINEA

Citizens of PNG are invited to apply for the above scholarships which will be awarded for FULL TIME studies at certificate, diploma, undergraduate or postgraduate levels. Priority fields of study and a list of eligible institutions is available on the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat website:www.forumsec.org

THE SCHOLARSHIP- covers tuition fees, text book, living and accommodation allowances (* special conditions apply), medical allowance, and one return economy airfare to the country of study. Note: There are no allowances for dependents.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS- Applicants must:
-Must be a citizen of PNG and a resident in PNG for five years prior to application, excluding years of study overseas

-Be applying to commence a new program of study and not be seeking support for study already commenced

- Have been accepted into a programme of study and institution or should show proof of application when requested. If you're provided a conditional, you MUST confirm an offer of placement no later than January 2017. Your offer will be suspended if you do not have confirmed by this time

- Not be more than 35 years old for an undergraduate program and not be more than 40 years old for a post graduate programme

- be in good health, and not hold a criminal record
-be able to take up the award within the scholarship year of offer
- not be under any bonding requirements at the commencement of this award

-Engineering (electrical, electronics, civil)

SELECTION CRITERIA- this will be basis of fulfillment of the eligibility requirements and merit within the country priority fields. Gender equity will also be considered.

PROCEDURE- Applicants can be obtain forms from the National Scholarship Office, or download from <www.forumsec.org> under Funding Assistance within the Strategic Partnership and Coordination section or collect forms from the Forum Secretariat in Suva, Fiji. All sections of the applications form must be completed with certified supporting documents attached. Applications must be endorsed by National scholarship Authority and / or Ministry of Foreign Affairs (or External Affairs) prior to submission to the Forum Secretariat.

Applications are now open for the Asia Pacific Leadership Program Fellowship 2017 in USA

EAST-West Center is inviting applications for Asia Pacific Leadership Program Fellowship. The eight (8) week program involves a combination of personal strategic planning activities, leadership development workshops, and reflective space to independently develop strategic plans or projects within the context of the East-West Center community.

The leadership development program is designed to provide opportunities for advanced professionals to reflect on personal and organizational achievement while developing plans for the future.

Scholarship Value:Fees to cover tuition, on-campus accommodation and administrative expenses for the eight-week program are $3,500 USD. Personal living and travel expenses vary according to the candidate’s lifestyle. We suggest that selected candidates budget at least $600 USD per month, or $1,200 USD for eight weeks, for food and other personal expenses.

Eligibility:
  • The US and international students can apply for Asia Pacific Leadership Program Fellowship.
  • Bachelor’s degree – applicants must have at least a 3-year bachelor’s degree or its equivalent from an accredited U.S. College or University or from a recognized institution of higher learning abroad. Equivalency is determined by the University of Hawai’i.
  • A demonstrated commitment to promoting peace and prosperity in the Asia-Pacific region, and a deep interest in experiential leadership development training.

College Admission Requirement:
  • Entrance Requirement: Applicants must have at least a 3-year bachelor’s degree or its equivalent from an accredited U.S. College or University or from a recognized institution of higher learning abroad.
  • Test Requirement: No
  • English Language Likewise, the TOEFL and IELTS are not required in order to apply for this program. English language proficiency will be determined by the Selection Committee during the interview stage.
