Marape's resignation sparks much talk in the upcoming 'vote of no confidence' in Peter O'Neill

Joe Lanao Wasia

Do you know who are 'kings' and 'king makers' for the coming VONC Motion?

Here are my tips;

1) Hon Sam Basil. Despite inhouse Pangu Parti leadership tussle, Basil has the number required to claim the country's top post. Basil has 13 MPs loyal to him after his termination from the Pangu Parti leadership. By this time, i believe, his new Our Party is ready to go into the battle field. Its about number. Who says no. I still remember, one time, him saying he will change the O'Niel Govt before 2022. Despite his recent shift to the Govt, i was still thinking he would move out one day to over throw the Govt he serves. Anyone can confirm him being too vocal on so many national issues hitting the country hard since 2012. Yes, to see a change you have to be in it.

2) Hon William Duma. Mr Duma's URP has 11 MPs and he has the number to claim the top post. However, he will never move prematurely, he will move only when he sees that PNC does no longer hold its MPs back. He will never want to end up in Opposition. He will move where the tide goes. Why? He has many legal implications which he knows will be revived by the new Govt with the reinstatement of Tsak Force Sweep led by Sam Koim.

3) Sir Meckere Morauta. Being a NA MP (about 14 MPs) and a most senior politician with vast experience, stronger affinity to hold others togeather, and traits required in such economic turmoil, many MPs from both sides of the Hon House would want him to lead. But than its about negotiating for the portfolios including the top post. If negotiation succeeds who knows he might be our next PM.

4) Hon Peter O'Niel. Mr O'Niel was shocked by the sudden departure of his brother and kitchen Cabinet Minister whom he gets his strengths from. However, at this time, O'Niel still has the number to defeat any VONC motion by the Opposition. O'Niel knows the game rules very well now from his first victory in 2016 VONC spear-headed by Don Polye and Ben Micha. Or if he sees that he would be defeated and wants to maintain the top post within his PNC or any major coalation partners within the Govt then he can stand down and allow someone else to take the leadership.

5) Hon James Marape. Mr JM being the most senior PNC man he might have some exodus soon or later before VONC with him. However, at this time we arent sure as he stated that he will still remain with the Govt as ordinary MP. But the game is about negotiating who to get what slice depending on the numerical strengths, hence he might lead a mass exodus at the 11th hr. Who knows. Marape can be the next PM. If his move fails then it will be another Ben Micha move.

6) Hon Kerenga Kua, Bryan Kramer and others will not want to claim the top post in the VONC as their aim is to change the captian of the ship. And that change has to come from the govt cocus. If they did not succeed it will be another 2016 failed VONC.

Unless the kings and king makers play the game well no one will claim the top post. Its about number and how smart one takes on the game in the field.
