Free education policy a failure as Kikori Secondary students starve and teachers go without pay

Kikori secondary school is in dire straits. Students are having one flour ball for 8 hours without lunch each day.

The school owes the catholic mission over K500, 000 after the church has been trying its best to help the situation.

Of the 39 teachers only 11 are teaching a total of 4-500 students because they have been without pay for the last 6-7 months.

One teacher takes 2 classes in the morning and 2 classes in the afternoon. Students from outside kikori are finding various means to ease the burden with the lack of proper security.

Others are withdrawing enmass. It is understood Kerema Coronation High and Malalaua High school are facing the same problems.
