Survival of the fittest at its best - Tambul, WHP

By Bart Jerry - Mi Ripota - Tambul, WHP

The people of Lower Kagul area of Tambul Nebliyer District did not wait for the government to deliver basic infrastructure services to their doorsteps.

However, these people took bold steps to construct their own bridge using six 16 metres logs that were freshly harvested from the jungles of the third highest mountain of PNG - Mt Giluwe. It took about five kilometres to pull those logs from the bush to the roadside.

The newly built Kalgane bridge will link two highlands provinces (WHP and SHP).

Moreover, this bridge will also benefit more than twenty thousand population in terms of education and health services as well as having easy access to selling their fresh produce to market.

They also collected rocks from nearby creeks to put as gravel on the worse affected part of the road.

This is an obvious move for people who are desperate for government services. Such people have all the rights to deserve government services and should not be neglected.

All in all, thanks to the current member for Tambul Nebliyer district, Mr Win Bakri Daki for recognising the hard work these people initiated. High hopes for something better on the way.

Below are the photographs of how people struggle to make something happen.
