In a quest of seeking for a right candidate, PANGU lands on diplomat and lawyer John Bria - Is he a right choice to unseat Hon. Labi Amaiu?

WHO IS JOHN BRIA???

by BRYAN KRAMER

On 30 January 2017 I posted an article "Pangu Seeks Candidates for NCD." It was to consider the public's views on potential candidates to be endorsed under Pangu Party banner in 2017 General Elections.

The article received an overwhelming response with over 75,000 views, 1,800 comments, 774 shares and Party Leaders' picture receiving close to 25,000 likes.

For Moresby North East Seat a Mr. John Bria name was submitted his application is now being considered by a screening committee. We are now asking for the public's view what they know of Mr. Bria.

Following a one on one interview the party has established Mr. Bria is 36 years of age. He was born at Port Moresby General Hospital and raised at 5 mile Gordon Ridge. His parents come from Gumine District in Simbu Province.

Mr Bria attended Holy Rosary Primary School, Dela Salle High School Bomana and Passam National High School in East Sepik Province. He was later accepted to study at the University of PNG graduating with honors with a degree in Political Science.

He took up employment with Department of Foreign Affairs for four years. Whilst still working he return to UPNG to complete a second degree in law before completing legal training at LTI and later admitted to the Bar.

In 2011 after completing his studies he was assigned as Operations Manager to manage the Manus Regional Processing Centre for Refugee & Asylum Seekers.

In 2012 O'Neill Namah Government established multi government agencies, Task Force Sweep and Task Force Rausim Alien.

Mr. Bria was re-assinged from Manus to be the Department's lead coordinator in Task Force Rausim Alien (TFRA).

TFRA carried out operations across the country in Lae, Mt Hagen, Wewak, Goroka, Vanimo, Alotau, Madang, Central Province, Kavieng, Pogera and Kimbe. They were responsible for the detention and deportation of several hundred foreign immigrants who were involved:

- illegal logging operations
- organised Crime Infiltrating Government Agencies,
- unlawfully in the country
- breach of work permits or visa conditions.

In 2012 O'Neill Government disbanded Task Force Rausim Alien. Bria took up a diplomatic post in PNG High Commission in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Late last year after completing his overseas posting he returned back to Port Moresby and as per the Department of Personnel Management circular resigned six months in advance to contest 2017 General Elections.

Mr Bria has impressive qualifications, degrees in both political science and law with a sound employment record. Certificates in Intelligence Analysis, Foreign Service, Fraud Examiner and Cyber Intelligence.

As part of Pangu's candidate selection criteria each person seeking party endorsement are subject to a fit and proper persons test. This is to establish attributes of good character, diligence, honesty and integrity.

Hon. Sam Basil would like to get the public's view whether Mr. Bria is the right person for Party Party to contest the Moresby North West Seat.

Hon. Labi Amaiu, Member for Moresby North East
