Commentary by Bryan Kramer - Madang MP
Today, Prime Minister Peter O'Neill and what's left of his PNC Ministers attended a reconciliation ceremony hosted by Member of Kiriwina-Goodenough Open and former Forest Minister Douglas Tomuriesa.
The event was to unofficially affirm Tomuriesa will retain his Ministry after he was actually decommissioned following his resignation and defection to Alternative Government a week earlier.
Tomuriesa was responsible for leading 9 Members of PNC Party to resign and join James Marape at Laguna Camp. However on the eleventh hour, concerned about ending up on the wrong side he decided to rush by back to O'Neill at Crown Hotel.
Forest Ministry was to go to Member for Ijivitari Open, Richard Masere who is an ordinary in Member O'Neill Abel Government.
Masere has been desperate to be appointed a Ministry portfolio after 2 years of panting and praising O'Neill on the floor of Parliament. Sadly he is considered a junior Member in Government and branded an opportunist by Members of Opposition.
So why would O'Neill reward Tomuriesa with his Ministry after he betrayed him and his own party colleagues?
Well if you recall my last article I mentioned Tomuriesa would most likely join a coalition party, like a donkey led by a carrot O'Neill was forced to return the Ministry back to Tomuriesa or lose another member of his PNC party, something he desperately can't afford right now.
This is why I've always maintained O'Neill is hardly the master political tactician but the master of dumb politicians.
Following a change of Government Tomuriesa will mostly likely end up joining with Chan's PPP Party. In the meantime he gets to enjoy his Ministry while his fellow PNC colleagues who remained loyal to O"Neill get nothing and all look rather stupid. I"m sure O'Neill has explained to them don't worry he will deal with Tomuriesa and Manake once he gets past the vote of no confidence, if he doesn't then they can expect to all end up in the Opposition with me.
