OVER 1000 PEOPLE JOINS GOVERNOR POWES PARKOP AT THE SPECTACULAR GOVERNOR’S GALA BALL

PORT MORESBY: NCD Governor Powes Parkop reaffirms his six-point strategic plan and his vision for the Capital City through the global brand “Amazing Port Moresby: One City. One People. One Future.”

More than 1,000 people attended the National Capital District (NCD) Governor Powes Parkop’s inaugural Governor’s Gala Ball on Sunday, which was attended by senior Ministers and officials, diplomats, corporate sector, academia, churches and civil society.

Honourable Minister James Marape was the Guest of Honour, who also attended on behalf of the Honourable Prime Minister, Peter O’Neil.

Others in the audience included Minister for Police, Hon. Jelta Wong, Minister for Works and Implementation, Hon. Michael Nali, Minister for Immigration, Hon. Petrus Thomas, Minister for Lands and Physical Planning, and Member for Moresby South, Hon. Justin Tkatchenko, Minister of Housing and Urbanisation, and Member for Moresby North East, John Kaupa, Hon. Soroi Eoe, Minister for Community Development, Religion, Youth & Censorship, Deputy Governor and Chairman of the Motu Koita Assembly, Dadi Toka Jr, Hon. Allan Bird, Governor for East Sepik and City Manager Bernard Kipit.

At the event, dubbed as spectacular and impactful, Mr Parkop laid out his vision for the city, reported progress for his 6-points strategic action plan 2017-2022 and call on all at the audience to support his vision to make Port Moresby safe, peaceful, smart, healthy, clean and prosperous.

He also launched the “Amazing Port Moresby: One City. One People. One Future” campaign to rally everyone to support his vision for the city.

“If it takes a village to raise a child then it takes all of us to change this City. The time has come, at this pivotal moment, to change the script for Port Moresby,” said Governor Parkop urging all in the audience to stand side by side with him to drive progress for the city.

“Tonight, I invite you to not only continue your support as you always have, but for all of us to go next level. To move away from thinking profits to patriotism, from talking to taking actions, from negative perception internally to positive expression externally by joining me in making our love and aspirations for this One Amazing Port Moresby a reality,” he continued.

Governor Parkop ended his rousing speech by asserting that Port Moresby is at a tipping point and that there is no better time than now to start transformation in the city.

This is the first Governor’s Gala Ball as part of Governor Parkop’s vision to engage with all levels of society to garner support for his vision.

Hon James Marape, who also gave a speech in response to the Governor’s Keynote Address, congratulated Parkop and reaffirmed the National Government’s support to his plans.

“Port Moresby is the gateway to Papua New Guinea. Progress and success in Port Moresby is progress and success for the nation,” said Minister Marape. 

Governor Parkop handed a dummy cheque of K200,000, a proceed from the event, to the chair lady of FSVAC Secretariat and NCD Gender Desk, on behalf of six NCD Safe Houses comprising of Haus Ruth, Lifeline, Kaugere Meri Seif, House of Hope and Belisi Femili PNG
