The PNG SP Hunters have demolished Ipswich Jets 32 - 12 in round 11 of the Intrust Super Cup match played this afternoon at North Ipswich Reserve.
The Hunters displayed a clinical dominance in the first half in attack and in defence. On the 6th minute, co-captain, Wellington Albert with his trademark run, carried several players into the tryline to score the Hunters' first try . Boas converted the try and the Hunters took the early lead 6 - 0 . A penalty was awarded to the Hunters after the Jets were caught off-side. Boas extended the lead with a penalty shot to 8 - 0.
A poor handling error from the Jets gave another opportunity for the Hunters to attack. The visitors took the opportunity and sent Adex Wera for the second try of the afternoon. Boas found the uprights and took the lead to 14 - 0.
On the 33 minute, a set play from the Hunters saw Israel Eliab scored the Hunters third try of the afternoon. Boas converted the try and the score was 20 nil at half-time.
In the second half, the Jets regrouped and terrorized the Hunters defence. Their efforts were rewarded with a try from Dane Phillips on the 62nd minute. Wes Conlon added the extras to reduce the margin to 20 - 6 . In the next play, the Hunters could not stop the enormous pressure that the homeside launched and conceded another try through Mitchell Carpenter on the 66 minute. Wes Conlon added the extras and the Jets were within reach with 20 - 12 with 14 minutes on the clock.
A shy of relief in the Hunters team came about when Moses Meniga stopped an attacking player with solid hit that caused a drop ball. This changed the momentum of the game and the Hunters took possession and attacked the Jets defence. Captain Boase stepped few players and scored next to the uprights. He added the extras and took the lead to 26 - 12. Winger Blend Abavu added the ice on the cake with a try on the 77th minute. Boas added the extras and the Hunters won 32 - 12 on full time.
