Court rules out leadership tribunal case for Prime Minister Peter O'Neill

Papua New Guinea's Supreme Court has ruled that the Prime Minister Peter O'Neill's referral to a Leadership Tribunal was unconstitutional.

Mr O'Neill had been referred by the Public Prosecutor over his involvement in the The Post Courier reports that the court found legal and financial process and procedures may not have been complied with.

But it also concluded that the Ombudsman Commission failed to identify the persons or bodies who or which were not consulted and the law or laws mandating such consultation.

It said the Commission did not identify the manner in which the lack of consultation allegedly gave rise or might give rise to a breach of the Leadership Code state taking out a loan to buy a stake in Oil Search Limited.
